EXAMPLES OF ORAL SURGERY PROCEDURES

At Coastal Jaw Surgery, we proudly offer a range of oral surgery services, including the following:

  • Bone Grafting
  • Soft Tissue Regeneration
  • Surgical Tooth Extraction
  • Wisdom Tooth Removal
  • Pathology/Biopsy for Oral Cancer
  • Soft Tissue Grafting
  • Reconstructive Surgery
  • Sinus Lift

Prior to performing oral surgery, we will conduct a thorough examination of your oral health to determine any underlying conditions that need to be addressed, and if necessary, take a 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan, which will provide us with 3D images of your bone, nerve pathways, soft tissues, and teeth and allow us to make informed treatment decisions. During the oral surgery process, we will do everything we can to ensure that you experience minimal discomfort, which is why we offer varying levels of sedation, including oral sedatives, nitrous oxide, and intravenous (IV) sedation. Once you are sedated, the procedure will begin, which may include any of the following.

DENTAL BONE GRAFTING

A bone grafting procedure is an effective method of restoring jawbone tissue to restore proper functioning. Dental bone grafts are commonly performed to correct jaw injury or defect and as part of the dental implant process. Once the graft has facilitated regeneration of bone tissue and fully integrated, there will be enough jawbone material to support a dental implant.

RIDGE AUGMENTATION

Following a tooth extraction, a ridge augmentation can be performed to recreate the natural contour of the jaw and gums by placing bone graft material in the socket of the tooth. Once the area has healed and the size and shape of the alveolar ridge(s) is correct and tested to ensure it can provide sufficient structural integrity and stability, the dental implant can be placed.

SINUS LIFT

A sinus lift is a surgical procedure where the sinus membrane is raised up and a bone graft is placed between your jaw and maxillary sinuses. There are several reasons why a sinus lift may be necessary, but the most common is because there is insufficient bone height in the upper jaw to support a dental implant. Once the graft has facilitated regeneration of bone tissue and fully integrated, there will be enough jawbone material to support a dental implant.

TOOTH EXTRACTION

Although every effort will be made to preserve your natural teeth, there are instances when a tooth extraction is necessary to ensure your oral health and reduce the risk of complications developing. A tooth extraction may be necessary when teeth that have become irreparably damaged due to infection, decay, fracture, overcrowding, or periodontal disease.

Please note: Our office offers additional oral surgery procedures to address your unique needs. Regardless of what procedure(s) is being performed, our Board-Certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons are ready to apply advanced techniques and surgical care to ensure that you enjoy a properly aligned bite, restored/improved functionality, continued good oral health, and a pleasing aesthetic appearance.
