I don’t remember hearing a lot about dentistry as a profession while I was growing up. The most I knew about it was that you had to have your teeth cleaned every six months or so, and if you got a cavity, you had to have a filling. I remember that the family dentist we went to was really good. I never recalled any bad experiences going to our dentist. I called him and asked if I could come by to see what his days were like. I spent a few weeks with him, ‘kicking the tires’ of my possible dental career, seeing if it was something I could dedicate myself to, and I did.

Whether it’s bringing in the latest proven techniques for advancing patient care, or making time to network with and support fellow dentists in our community, I am pleased to be a part of Coastal Jaw Surgery’s investment and commitment in the dental health of this region.

“My father, a career military man, always encouraged me to consider dentistry as a career. Upon finishing college, I became a surface warfare officer in the United States Navy. While assigned to a naval destroyer, a young sailor who worked for me, was injured sustaining prominent facial injuries. Since we were not near navy medical facilities, the sailor was treated at a local public health hospital by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. I had the opportunity to work closely with the surgeon in coordinating the sailor’s care. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery seemed like a great combination of medicine and dentistry. After my navy active duty, I pursued becoming an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.”

Wisdom and Tooth Extraction

Coastal Jaw Surgery is trusted by many dentists for their patients who need wisdom teeth or general tooth extraction. Our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons have extensive training and experience with impacted teeth.

When you visit our office for your initial consultation, one of our doctors will go over your referral form (if it was provided by your general dentist) and your medical history. A comprehensive head and neck exam will then be conducted. Appropriate radiographs will be taken to confirm your diagnosis and provide detailed images of the problem tooth/teeth. Next, the doctor will discuss the anesthesia options with you — local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, IV sedation or general anesthesia. Our doctors remove wisdom teeth and general teeth in the comfort and convenience of our in-office surgical suites. This eliminates the inconvenience of hospital-based dentistry. You will feel confident knowing that our doctors are licensed and certified to deliver all levels of anesthesia.
